Yann Kaito
in Toronto

Yann Kaito takes photographs for a living. That’s the story everyone knows. The truth is that when a lawyer named Lenny Greenblatt shows up at the marina with two bags of groceries, it never means good news — and it always means Yann has one more job to do. A job nobody’s supposed to know exists, for an organisation that officially doesn’t.

This time, the target is an unscrupulous, murderous real estate tycoon in Toronto who has made sure the law can never touch him. Getting close to him means a fake name, and a pretty partner Yann never asked for — a woman who turns out to be far more capable than he expected, and far harder to keep out of danger than he’d like.

The deeper Yann gets, the less this job looks like the others. And the closer he gets to pulling the trigger, the less sure he is of what that will actually cost him.

A fast, sharp-edged thriller about a killer with a conscience, a target more dangerous than the file suggested, and a plan that stops going smoothly the moment it matters most.

Isabelle von Laurenz

A European princess in the hands of a ruthless, murderous cult leader

Yann Kaito
in Santa Fe

This time, the target is Babbice: a self-proclaimed prophet and leader of the Ecclesia Entropica, a dubious cult in the middle of the New Mexico desert, surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards. His most valuable bargaining chip: Princess Isabelle von Laurenz, who has been held captive in his camp for a year — and, as soon as her terminally ill father dies, will become the ruler of a principality with its own banking secrecy laws. Disguised as Robert Thommer, a failed bookseller with a dark past, Yann infiltrates Babbice’s community. Donation after donation, trust after trust, until he’s close enough. But the deeper he penetrates, the clearer it becomes: Out here, it’s not just Isabelle’s life and his cover that matter. Out here, what matters is how far a man can go before he himself becomes what he’s fighting against.

In a landscape of mesas and burning sky, where a private detention compound lies hidden beneath the flight path of morning balloons, Yann finds himself between an organisation that wants him to finish the job and a murderous cult who wants to finish Yann's life.

A taut political thriller about cults, violence, and the price of knowing too much — set against the vast, unforgiving beauty of the American Southwest.

Who Is
Yann Kaito?

On paper, Yann Kaito is a photographer. He lives in a loft near to a marina in Vancouver. He has a good eye for light, a reliable set of travel documents, and a layer of professional distance that most people mistake for calm.

In practice, Yann works for an organisation that doesn’t have letterhead. His clients are referred by a distinguished lawyer named Lenny Greenblatt . The secret organisation targets people the legal system cannot reach — men who have made themselves untouchable through wealth, connections, or jurisdiction, and who have therefore become Yann’s problem instead.

He is methodical, controlled, and very good at making himself invisible in any city in the world. He is less good at staying indifferent when the mission stops going the way the file said it would — which, as his books demonstrate, is almost always.
